Review: Homeland

by Maureen Closs

Homeland is one of the best thriller/dramas to reach our TVs – avid viewers have their fingers crossed in the hope of a third season after a hectic first two seasons full of twists and turns.

It is a gripping, fast-moving production which has had us biting our nails in anticipation each week until it finally turned 10pm on Sunday evening.

The cast of the show celebrate dominating the Emmy's in 2012
Damian Lewis (the handsome British actor playing an American) assumes the role of US marine sergeant Nick Brody, who was pronounced dead in Iraq but returns miraculously eight years later. He was discovered during a rescue mission with claims of living through years of torture, imprisonment and abuse.

CIA agent, Carrie Mathieson, his lover and nemesis, is played by Clare Danes. She alone suspects that the all-American hero has been ‘turned’ and is involved in a plot to bring down her government. Mathieson is also bi-polar which causes great confusion as to what her mental state is and whether or not it’s all just in her head.

It’s all a case of is he a spy or isn’t he a spy in the first series which creates a good relationship with the audience bringing them back week after week.

The show received top credits and awards in 2012 leaving it with the true recognition it deserved.

If you missed it, the first series is now out on DVD – treat yourself!
