MSP hits out at Urban Dictionary's definition of Kirkcaldy

Kirkcaldy was the subject of controversy after various definitions of the town appeared on popular website Urban Dictionary.

The insulting definitions include:

"It is situated along the rusted trolley ridden coastline in the county of Fife in the post apocalyptic wasteland of Scotland."

They went on to say Kirkcaldy was "the final resting place of Satan" and described local pass times as "Heroin, alcoholism, pregnancy, begging and aggressive homophobia."

Local MP David Torrance has spoken out against the abusive definitions. He posted a message to the writer of the definition calling Kirkcaldy "a place of real beauty."

Urban Dictionary is entirely written by anonymous contributors, and is very lightly moderated, so often contains insulting definitions.

Urban Dictionary's owner Aaron Peckham created the site in 1999 as a way to describe slang words, since then almost 7 million entries have been submitted, the site is visited by over 15,000 visitors each month.

A spokesman for the website was not available for comment
