HMV trouble finally hits home

After months of struggling, HMV has finally announced it will be closing most of its doors.

The Kirkcaldy store based in the Mercat shopping centre will be only one of 11 stores which are set to close – this will result in a total loss of 178 jobs in Scotland.

The closures were announced by Deloitte – the firm which stepped in when HMV was originally at rock bottom. Only a few stores in Edinburgh and Glasgow will be left but the most important stores will close including:
Kirkcaldy
Dumfries
Edinburgh Princes Street
Edinburgh Ocean Terminal
Edinburgh St James’ Centre
Edinburgh Fort
Edinburgh Gyle Centre
Falkirk
Glasgow Braehead
Glasgow Silverburn
Glasgow Fort

Joint administrator Nick Edwards said:

"As part of our ongoing review of HMV's financial position, we have now completed a review of the store portfolio and have identified 66 loss-making stores for closure.
"This step has been taken in order to enhance the prospects of securing the business' future as a going concern."
HMV was the only up-to-date music store left in Kirkcaldy, apart from the supermarket retailers and it will be a giant loss to not only Kirkcaldy but Fife as a whole.
